Proposals: Say What You Need To Say

So you found the love of your life, and you’re ready to start your life together… what’s next? Planning the proposal!

What does this entail? Immediately what comes to mind is probably planning the details of the location and the ring. But don’t forget that you need to know what you’re going to say to her. There’s so much more than just “Will you marry me?”

Remember, you don’t necessarily have to memorize a speech, but it definitely helps if you have some things in mind instead of trying to just wing it. The best marriage proposals are the most personal ones. Yes, this means we’re not going to give you a script – you have to tailor this to your partner specifically, but we’ll help you out with some starting points.

Today we give you three things to focus on…

how-to-propose

  1. Start from the beginning…Do you have a cute story about the first time you met? Do you remember what you first thought when you saw them for the first time? What about your first date? First kiss? Remind her of where you started, and how far you’ve come.
  2. Tell her what makes her unique…Why do you love her? What is it that makes her so special? Maybe its the way she laughs, or the way she always knows how to brighten your day, or how incredibly smart she is… whatever it is that you love about her, tell her!
  3. Tell her how she’s affected you…Has she changed your life for the better, in big and small ways? Tell her how she makes you a better person… these can be little details, or just an overall impression that you wouldn’t be who you are today without her.

Remember, these are just launching points you can use to start jotting down some ideas. Check back next week for three more tips. Happy planning, and good luck!
